Our Program
Our program develops the love of learning in your child through a variety of structured play activities and social experiences, in keeping with our philosophy that our children learn best through play. We focus on socialization to encourage happy, confident children with a strong sense of self.
When your child discusses Mayflower at home, you will hear about our activity centers which include art, science, reading, block building, small motor development and dramatic play. Your child will be involved in music enrichment, cooking projects and will form friendships with classmates.

Curriculum
A unit or theme plan is used at Mayflower to plan curriculum. Our monthly newsletter contains a calendar with themes highlighted. Each day is filled with different areas of learning, such as dramatic play, arts, science, story time, group time, games, large and small muscle activities, computer and special activities that coordinate with the theme. Music and Movement occurs twice a month with both classes coming together. The music curriculum is planned to help the children gain an appreciation of music. It also helps the children build self-esteem and experience the joy of singing and dancing.
Special Person
In our Duck class, each day a child is chosen to be the special person. As the special person, the child will wear a “Special Person” name tag home the day before, which alerts the parents that the child is the special person the next school day. The child may bring something special (book, toy, sibling) to share with the class. The child also gets special responsibilities during the day at school. Our children love their opportunities to be the Special Person!
Class Duck
During the winter in our Duck class, we send home a stuffed duck and a class book. Each student has an opportunity to draw a picture and write one or two sentences about what the duck did while home with the student. At the end of the school year, a copy of the book is given to each Duck student. The children enjoy this special activity and the traveling duck!
Parent/Teacher Conferences
Parent Teacher conferences will be held twice during the school year. The conferences are held in early November and again in March. However, parents will be informed either by phone, in person, or in writing of any concerns a teacher may have for their child. Teachers are more than willing to meet with parents at any time during the school year.
