Mayflower Nursery School will celebrate the Week of the Young Child April 22-28, 2012. As part of the national Week of the Young Child celebrated across the country, Mayflower Nursery School is honoring young children and all those who make a difference in children’s lives.

“All young children need and deserve high-quality early learning experiences that will prepare them for life, and Mayflower Nursery has a terrific opportunity to do our part to love, nurture and teach young children in our community,” said Martha Bonnie M.Ed, Director of Mayflower Nursery School. “Week of the Young Child is a time for us to recognize that Early Years are Learning Years for all young children.”

Mayflower Nursery School will celebrate with students, families and teachers at their Annual Family Fun Night on April 24. Fun Night is an evening for Mayflower families to celebrate children through games, clowns, balloons, prizes and healthy snacks. This year Mayflower Nursery School is also celebrating by surprising their professional teaching staff with an educator appreciation lunch. Week of the Young Child, sponsored by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC), is an opportunity for early childhood programs across the country to hold activities to bring awareness to the needs of young children.

Young children and their families depend on high-quality education opportunities, like those offered at Mayflower Nursery School, which help children get a great start and bring lasting benefits to their community. Week of the Young Child is a time to recognize the importance of early learning and early literacy and to celebrate the teachers and families that bring early childhood education to young children.

Our students, teachers and parents worked together to pick up trash in our neighborhood and along the Fox River Trail. In an hour we picked up four bags of trash! As one of our students said, “We are cleaning up the earth, so that the earth is happy.”

This month our classes are learning about spring weather, spring critters, gardening and more! We welcome the change of seasons and the many opportunities to do our learning outside in the warmer weather.

During April we also celebrate Week of the Young Child, April 22-28! As part of the nation wide celebration, Mayflower honors young children and all those who make a difference in children’s lives. At Mayflower we will join the celebration focusing on early literacy, thanking our teachers, and involving ourselves in our community. Please join us in honoring young children this week and every other week throughout the year!

While learning about the ocean this week, our Duck class created their own fish using recycled bottle caps collected by our families and vinyl tiles from the Habitat for Humanity Restore.

We are thrilled to add another option for our three-year-old students and their families! Beginning with the 2012-2013 school year, we will be welcoming three-year-olds to Mayflower in our Frog Class. The Frog Class will meet two mornings a week, Monday and Wednesday, from 9:30 AM to 12:00 PM. The class will be taught by our highly trained professional Mayflower teachers and will welcome our younger students to their first Mayflower experience.

Students in the Frog Class will learn to love learning as we learn and play together, developing our self-esteem and a sense of belonging.
